The Government of Uganda has unveiled a solar-powered water supply and irrigation system project in Kalungu district aimed at transforming agriculture.
It is aimed at providing a sustainable solution to water shortages and effectively reviving the devastated agricultural lands.
The initiative comes at a time when the district is grappling with unreliable rainfall, chronic water shortages and unproductive soils.
Aisha Ssekindi, State Minister for Water, said the project will not only help solve the problem of water shortage for irrigation but also create more jobs and improve people’s livelihoods.
In a message through her Personal Assistant – Ruth Komugisha, the minister urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the facility to ensure the project achieves its intended goals.
Interested farmers are encouraged to apply through their District Local Government to allow the ministry to conduct a preliminary investigation of the proposed site and when successful, will recommend it for consideration in light of the available funding.
