Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is looking to scale up its decentralised Solar Home Systems (SHS) in the Makoko area of Lagos State.
The project wants to bridge the energy supply gap to underserved and off-grid communities. The Nigerian REA said that across the area’s six geopolitical zones, 1,572 small and large capacity Solar Home Systems (SHS) had “been successfully deployed through this intervention.’
The agency said this would bring” about significant improvements in the lives of rural households and small businesses.’
REA officials visited the Makoko waterfront community over the past weekend to assess the impact of decentralised renewable solar home systems for a follow on scale-up.
