The demand for solar power in Kenya has significantly increased, as seen in the rise of solar-related licenses.
During the 2023/24 financial year, 154 licenses were issued to solar PV technicians, while 355 were granted to solar PV contractors, manufacturers, and importers.
This surge aligns with rising electricity costs, prompting consumers to turn to alternative energy sources like solar.
According to the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), the number of licensed solar PV firms and contractors has grown from 741 in 2018/19 to 1,603 in 2023/24.
Similarly, the number of licensed solar PV workers increased from 1,080 to 1,983 in the same period.
This growth highlights the increasing role of solar energy in Kenya’s energy landscape, with more businesses and professionals entering the solar market.
