Sierra Leone: Freezers powered by solar energy for fishing communities

Women in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors in Sierra Leone are receiving solar freezers to help them reduce their post-harvest losses and increase their income.

The UNDP recently announced that it had started the nationwide distribution of solar freezers to nearly 200 women’s groups.

The women who grapple with energy supply to store their fish, can now do so with solar freezers for longer periods, said the UNDP.

So far, solar freezers have been distributed to women’s groups and cooperatives

in Moyamba, Pujehun, Bonthe, Bo, Kenema, Kono, and Kailahun Districts.
