A 200kW solar mini-grid and green village model has been commissioned in Hakwata village, Chipinge District, Zimbabwe.
This initiative will bring clean, reliable electricity to over 100 homes and businesses for the first time in the community.
It forms part of the Climate Adaptation Water and Energy Infrastructure Programme (CAWEP), which aims to help Zimbabwe’s government achieve its climate change goals.
The initiative helps disadvantaged people and institutions in the Chipinge, Insiza, Chivi and Binga districts improve their ability to adapt to climate shocks.
The Zimbabwe United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) stated that this project, valued at almost $2 million, marks a significant leap towards Zimbabwe’s sustainable energy goals.
