Clean energy funding to meet Africa’s NDCs

Green Climate Fund ( GCF) and the World Bank have signed an agreement to rapidly begin implementing the second phase of renewable energy facility Sustainable Renewables Risk Mitigation Initiative Facility (Phase 2 Resilience focus) [SRMI-Resilience].

It will support Ethiopia, Guinea Bissau, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Seychelles, Somalia, Tajikistan and Tunisia in meeting their NDC commitments while increasing access to electricity for the most vulnerable populations.

The fund is particularly focused on solar home systems, commercial and industrial solar and mini-grids, as well as e-mobility, battery storage and carbon credit prefinancing.
