Hundreds of Nigerian fish farmers Hooked up to solar energy platform

A solar energy platform has been installed in the south-west of Nigeria to help

hundreds of fish farmers adopt environmentally friendly practices.

The project is a collaboration between the Ijebu Development Initiative on Poverty Reduction,the Danida Market Development Partnerships and Solidaridad West Africa.

The solar energy platform provides clean energy to more than 1,300 fish farmers in Eriwe.

Solidaridad West Africa, an international civil society organisation working to promote

sustainable production in more than 40 countries, said the project will:

Contribute to the reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases;

Reduce noise pollution in the fish farm village;

Improve the health of farmers, and

Improve farmers' income through the reduction in their daily expenditure on fuel.

On a recent visit to Nigeria, Isaac Kwadwo Gyamfi, Solidaridad West Africa regional director,visited the Aquaculture Development Nigeria project sites in Ijebu-Ode in the Ogun state of Nigeria.
