POPULATIONS OF 43 RURAL LOCALITIES IN BENIN READY FOR THE PURCHASE OF OFF-GRID ELECTRICITY

The MCA-Benin has, within the framework of the OCEF Facility, initialed between June and August 2020, the co-financing agreements for the 8 projects for the installation and operation of mini-grids, selected at the end of its second call for projects from the OCEF Benin Facility.

The aim is not only to bring clean and decentralised electrical energy to the rural community very quickly, but also to reduce the initial costs of connecting 127 localities, including electrification through the Company’s conventional network.

Beninese Electric Energy Corporation (SBEE) is planned for 5 to 10 years.

The OcEF Beneficiary Promoters, GDS International, ASEMI, ENERGYCITY and PARAS ENERGY, have submitted to the Beninese Agency for Rural Electrification and Energy Management (ABERME), in accordance with the new regulatory provisions of the off-grid electrification sub-sector, their application for a concession agreement to install mini-grids of more than 500 kVa in 43 villages in the departments of Borgou, Alibori, Atacora, Zou, Collines, Couffo and Plateau. Thus, ABERME has submitted to the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ARE), for analysis and approval of the tariff conditions in accordance with the Electricity Code. The ARE therefore organized from 02 to 09 September 2021, as part of its functions and attributions and the legal provisions for the validation of tariffs, the public consultation hearings with the representatives of the 43 villages concerned.
