Sharing the power with community-led mini-grids to increase Nigerian energy access

In terms of residential projects, the REA oversaw 2,046 solar systems being installed, reaching 1 ,972 homes, five primary healthcare centres, 10 schools, 22 religious centres and seven offices.

In March, the Nigerian REA announced plans to build more than 1,000 mini-grids in rural communities across the country.

At the time, Salihijo said the agency’s goal of providing energy access to Nigerians through renewable energy “is critical if we are to deliver the economic benefits that will spur rural economic growth and development in Nigeria.”
